Mitch Denny grew up in Alaska and has fished his whole life. When he met his wife online he moved to San Francisco to be with her. Two days before these photographs Mitch fell about 10' while climbing a ladder from his boat to the dock above and landed on the deck of his boat, severely injuring the muscles in his right arm. Tuna Harbor on San Diego Bay (California) is one of the last hold out commercial fishing marinas in San Diego. Even though Sea Urchins are only lightly regulated, Pete Halmay and his partner, Kenny Jeavons, voluntarily keep careful data on all their landings, including quantity, location and body size sampling. They're working with both governmental agencies (Fish and Wildlife) and academic institutions to make sure this data is both good and gets used. They believe that good co-management (regulatory agencies sent the parameters; fishermen work to maintain sustainability within those parameters) is the best way to manage fisheries.
